Operated by Bernie and Julie, Alphra’s lavender farm and shop is situated at Orakau, 8 kilometres south of Te Awamutu in the North Island of New Zealand. Being in the heartland of dairy farming, we are surrounded by green, dairy-farming pastures. Our location is conveniently adjacent to the most important Auckland-Waitomo Caves international tourist route and also the direct Waitomo Caves-Rotorua international tourist route. Travelling times are –
- Auckland – Alphra Lavenders: 2¼ hours
- Alphra Lavenders – Waitomo Caves: ¾ hour
- Alphra Lavenders – Rotorua: 1¼ hours
Our property is located at Orakau in the Waikato region of New Zealand, an important area for the Maori King movement in the mid 1860’s and we are within a gun’s roar of the Battle of Orakau. We are also part of the Parawera Trail, a local tourist trail that includes, an historic 1864 battle site, Maungatautari Ecological Island a reserve of native New Zealand flora and fauna very popular for bush and mountain walking, Out-in-the-Styx Cafe, Castle Rock Climbing Centre for for rock climbing, Threadbare Cottage for crafts and collectibles. For further information about a fascinating day of activity, email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com During the summer we receive numerous visits from touring bus groups who love the sense of freedom they experience while touring our very scenic region.
